What’s the capital of Australia? If you answered ‘Sydney’ then somewhere on QI alarm bells are ringing. A recent article posted by Lonely Planet highlights major cities around the world, which despite being the most well-known internationally, aren’t actually the country’s capital. Sydney, along with New York, Rio de Janeiro, Auckland and Istanbul, is one of the many world famous cities which is often subject to another case of mistaken identity, but as the article suggests, ‘losing your status as capital city can be a liberating experience'.
Bursting with culture, finance and vitality, these cosmopolitan hubs have got a lot going for them, which accounts for their constant influx of tourists.
